Materials We Collect and Recycle

Turning Scrap Metal into Value

ScotMet buys and recycles all types of non-ferrous scrap metals.

Check our list of common materials below, or contact our team for help identifying yours.

ScotMet Collected Material in Full Bins

Multi-Core Cable

Unstripped cable containing multiple copper cores, commonly used for electrical and data applications. This is the most common type of material we collect and recycle.

Single Core Cable

Unstripped electrical cable with a PVC covering and a single copper core. We pay higher rates for this compared to multi-core or low-grade cable types — especially when separated.

Low Grade Cable

Unstripped, armoured electrical cable with heavy-duty protection (often called SWA). This is the lowest grade of cable we buy and recycle, but still valuable and fully accepted.

Bare Bright Copper

Obtained from stripped electrical cable, this is the most valuable type of copper we purchase from customers.

Copper Tube

We classify copper tube into three categories — Clean, Dirty, and Heavy — depending on the presence of paint, solder, or other materials.

Copper Tanks

Also known as copper cylinders, we accept these with or without insulation.

Braziery Copper

Copper tube that’s been soldered, tinned, or painted, and may include some brass fittings. A slightly lower grade, but still fully recyclable.

Lead

From pipes to sheets, we accept all clean forms of lead — heavy, valuable, and always worth recycling.

Aluminium

From pipes to sheets, we accept all clean forms of lead — heavy, valuable, and always worth recycling.

Mixed Brass

Commonly collected from taps, fittings, and fixtures, but we accept all brass items.

Lead Acid Batteries

From large industrial units to small domestic batteries — we collect and recycle all types. Not sure what kind you have? Get in touch and we’ll confirm for you.

Electric Motors

Including starter motors and alternators. Let us know what you have, and we’ll provide an accurate price based on type and condition.
